Each term the school looks at a different concept to wrap our learning around. This term the classes are looking at the concept Kotahitanga - Working Together. 

Each letter of the word IGNITE means something different. 

‘I’ stands for ‘Ignition Day’ - this is where the teachers deliver fun and engaging activities to ignite the students thinking, imagination and enthusiasm about the concept. These Ignition Days are usually on the first day of term except in Term 1 where we do it a bit later so teachers have some time to get to know their students.

‘G’ stands for ‘Gather Our Questions’ - from the Ignition students will have lots of questions and wonderings. These are gathered and form the basis of the students will learn over the term.

‘N’ stands for ‘New Information’ - students gather new information about the concept. They will do this with the teachers help in the Juniors but as they get older the goal is that they begin to do this independently.

‘I’ stands for ‘Into the Learning Pit’ - this is where the students struggle to sort their information, find what is relevant and then crawl out of the Learning Pit’ as they begin to make sense of the information.

‘T’ stands for ‘Tying Our Learning Together’ - Once the students have sorted their information, they now get ready to present their new information and understanding on Celebration Day

‘E’ stands for ‘Evaluate and Celebrate’ - students evaluate what they have learnt and what they would like to learn next time. They then have a chance to celebrate all they have learnt by showcasing their understanding at a special Celebration Day. Every Celebration Day looks different as each class plans their own celebration.
