Senior Block
 Years 7 & 8

Our overarching goal...

The Senior Block to us needs to be a place of fun and engagement and somewhere your children will feel nurtured and supported. It is our goal to embrace them for who they are and what they bring to the classroom.

What kind of learners we hope to create…

  • Independent
  • Collaborative
  • Responsible
  • An “opt in” attitude
  • Honesty and Integrity
  • Self managing
  • Confident
  • Curious
  • Kindness, consideration and compassion towards others

Developing Independence...

Independence is something we work hard to support as we believe it helps set students up for not only the transition to high school but beyond as well.
Ways we help to foster independence:
  • Give ownership of learning
  • Encourage problem-solving and decision-making
  • Encourage real-world application of learning
  • Create a safe space for skill building

Jobs...

Students are paid by Mr Haggo to clean their block. They are responsible for ensuring it is tidy at the end of each day.
Jobs include:
  • Vacuuming
  • Disinfecting tables
  • Litter areas
  • Chromebook charging and storing
  • Sandpit cover and bins
  • General tidying and putting away
This helps promote ownership and independence of the block
The students get paid a wage equivalent to that of a proper cleaner!
The Seniors and the Student Council can decide what they spend their money on!
Students rotate through different jobs over the course of the year taking turns to do each one!

Technology...

The Senior students spend two blocks every Friday doing a mixture of sewing, woodwork, digital technology and cooking in rotations over the course of the year.
Year 7’s are learning the skills of how to use the tools and navigating their way around the technology curriculum.
Year 8s spend the first term designing their projects that they will be creating for sewing and woodwork. This process encourages the students to be independent and creative with their learning and take ownership in following through a process of a project from beginning to the end.
